MacPorts' stable Wine package, on Mac OS X Mavericks

(specifically, Wine version 11.0)

Disclaimer

This repository is mostly just an experiment to see if modern Wine is feasible, as well as a Mavericks-compatible Wine build that actually provides wine64.

(I'm looking at you, WineBottler!)

As a result, do not be surprised if Wine decides not to work as you may have wanted it to. Nothing is truly guaranteed.

Issues

  • Creating OpenGL contexts seem to fail at the moment. The reason is not yet clear.
    • This means that applications that use OpenGL will break, and applications that rely on OpenGL will not work at all.
    • This may be fixed by switching from XQuartz to MacPorts' xorg-xserver however I have yet to test a build with it.

Prerequisites

Despite my best efforts, you will still need XQuartz to be installed. You can download the latest Mavericks-compatible version here:

https://github.com/XQuartz/XQuartz/releases/download/XQuartz-2.8.5/XQuartz-2.8.5.pkg

You will also need to have MacPorts installed and run the following command to install the necessary packages: sudo port install freetype +universal gettext-runtime +universal gnutls +universal libpcap +universal libsdl2 +universal

Usage

If you want to build Wine yourself, follow the instructions inside BUILDING.md.

If you don't feel like building Wine by yourself, check the Releases page for any pre-built binaries.
